Got fired for a situation i was not aware of, is it legal?
I worked as a server/manager in a restaurant in NY. Early during the summer one employee was supposedly stealing, he was clocking in, leaving early and not clocking out. I was not ware that this was happening. The week manager did know and didn’t say anything to anybody. Last week he asked me to do something and i told him i was restaurant ware bulk not going to do it anymore(i was doing it for a couple of months) cause i felt he had time to do it and just didn’t want to(this is the laziest manager in the world).So he decided to talk after all this time, telling the general manager that i knew what was happening and i was covering it. The manager said that i was not doing my job and blah blah blah. So i had a meeting with the general manager and i explained to him that i had no reason to doubt this employee and for that reason i didn’t think of checking his clock in and out time. I was maybe expecting to be written up or something but never fired, they never showed me proof of what they claim.I want to know if is legal for them to fire me after this happened a few months ago and without showing me any proof ?
